TikTok Creative Center Explained: The TikTok Ad Library That Is a Leaderboard, Not a Search

Short answer

TikTok Creative Center is TikTok's public ad-inspiration tool: a leaderboard of high-performing ads that advertisers authorized, not a search engine like Meta's Ads Library. It cannot list one competitor's ads.

People look for a "TikTok ad library" and cannot find one, because it has a different name and a different logic. TikTok's public tool is the Creative Center, and it lists high-performing ads that advertisers agreed to show, not every ad. This covers what it can and cannot tell you, with a field-by-field comparison to Meta's Ads Library.

People searching for a "TikTok ad library" mostly want to do what the Meta Ads Library does: see what a competitor runs on TikTok. The short version: TikTok does not have that. It has the Creative Center, which overlaps in half the use cases and differs completely in logic.

1. Creative Center is a leaderboard, not a search engine

Meta Ads Library TikTok Creative Center
Coverage Every Page's ads (ended ones kept a year) High-performing ads the advertiser authorized for display
A specific competitor Yes, Page search No; keyword search and luck
Sort Total impressions For You / likes / CTR / impressions
Time Start date, any range Last 7 / 30 / 180 days
Performance data None (except social issues) CTR percentile, likes, retention curve, budget tier
Versions / landing page Yes No
Login Not needed Needed for full content (free account)

Opening the Top Ads page logged out on 2026-09-13 showed only the first few ads, a "Log in to access all Top Ads" prompt, and a footnote: "ads displayed here are limited to those that have been authorized by advertisers and may not reflect all top-performing auction ads." That sentence is the whole difference: Meta discloses by force, TikTok by consent. Not seeing a competitor in Creative Center does not mean they are not advertising.

2. What Top Ads can tell you

Five filters: region (defaults to where you are; pick your target market), industry (e-commerce, games, finance, education, and so on), objective (conversions, app installs, leads, reach), video duration, and period. Four sorts: For You, likes, CTR, impressions.

Only one combination is useful in practice: region = the market you will run in, industry = yours, period = last 30 days, sort = CTR. That lists the highest-CTR ads in your category in your market over the last month. The For You sort is for inspiration and mixes in other industries.

A common trap: when we opened Top Ads logged out on 2026-09-13, the region defaulted to Japan, not Taiwan; it guesses from browser language and IP and often guesses wrong. Logged in, it remembers the last setting. Check the region selector in the top right before reading anything; people spend 30 minutes studying Japanese ads before noticing.

A single ad's analytics page gives three things Meta's library cannot:

  1. Retention curve: how many viewers remain at each second. A curve that halves by second three means the opening did not hold; sixty percent still watching at second ten means that opening is worth dissecting.
  2. CTR percentile: what share of ads in the same industry this one beats, rather than one absolute number.
  3. Budget tier: high, medium or low, no amount. High tier plus a long stay on the leaderboard is the advertiser's anchor ad.

How to read the three together: a CTR percentile in the top 20% with a low budget tier means the ad performs but the advertiser has not scaled it yet, usually a creative 1 to 2 weeks old; note it and check in 30 days whether it moved to high. An ordinary CTR percentile with a high tier and more than 30 days on the board means the conversion numbers are good enough that the advertiser tolerates a mediocre click rate; the landing page is doing the work, so go and look at where it sends people.

3. Trends: where to look before making a creative

Top Ads shows how others advertise; Trends shows what the platform is doing right now. Four tabs: hashtags (which are rising this week), songs (commercially usable trending audio), creators (fastest-growing accounts by region), videos (organic hits).

Use it backwards: do not force a trending hashtag onto an ad. Check whether your industry appears among the rising hashtags; if it does, the organic videos under that tag are your creative reference, because TikTok ads only run well when they look like organic content. That is the opposite of Meta, where an ad that looks like an ad is fine.

4. Using it together with the Ads Library

The same competitor, two platforms:

  1. Start in Meta's Ads Library with Page search, find their three longest-running ads, and learn their offer and landing page (section 5 of how to use the Ads Library).
  2. Then search Top Ads in Creative Center with their brand or product name. Found: study the retention curve and how their opening works. Not found: it does not mean they skip TikTok, only that they did not authorize display.
  3. Check Trends for whether your category has organic traffic on TikTok this month. If not, TikTok ads will be expensive; run Meta first.

Running on TikTok needs a TikTok ad account or verified advertiser whose region matches the market you will run in; the region cannot be changed after registration, which is why the TikTok section of the catalog lists Taiwan, US and Thailand ad accounts separately.

One last caveat: Top Ads lists auction ads only. Reserved brand placements such as TopView are not in it. A big brand with only 2 or 3 ads on the board does not have a small budget; the bulk is probably in reserved inventory. That budget class is a different market from buying an account and running auction ads, and studying it teaches nothing useful.

FAQ

Does TikTok have an ad library?

Not one like Meta's. TikTok's public tool is the Creative Center, a leaderboard of high-performing ads that advertisers agreed to show, not every ad. In the EU there is also a Commercial Content Library required by the Digital Services Act, covering only ads delivered to the EU.

Do I need to log in to use Creative Center?

The home page and a few Top Ads are visible logged out, but the full ranking, all filters and the per-ad analytics page need a free TikTok for Business login.

Can Creative Center show a specific brand's ads?

Not all of them. Top Ads can be searched by keyword, but only ads that rank and that the advertiser authorized appear. TikTok has no equivalent of Meta's Page search.

What sorting does Top Ads offer?

For You, likes, CTR and impressions, over the last 7, 30 or 180 days, filterable by region, industry, objective and video duration.

Does Creative Center show ad spend?

No amounts. A single ad's analytics page shows a CTR percentile, likes, a retention curve (which second loses the most viewers) and a budget tier (high, medium, low), which Meta's library does not offer.

What else is in Creative Center besides Top Ads?

Trends (hashtags, songs, creators, videos), Creative Insights, Keyword Insights (words used in ad copy) and Top Products. Use Trends to find a creative direction and Top Ads to see competitors.

Does Douyin have a Creative Center?

Douyin is the mainland-China app with its own ad platform and its own creative tool. Creative Center covers TikTok only.
